We are excited to announce that the United Way, have provided funding to SHARE through their “Local Love Food Hub program” that will help support our Food Bank, as we navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis. This funding will help us support the COVID-related gaps that we have identified in two critical ways that include: increased food bank services and the purchase of food for specific client groups.

During these difficult times, many of our food bank clients are at risk of being impacted more severely than others. These include:

  • School aged children, who are enrolled in their school breakfast and lunch programs and are not receiving these meals as schools remain closed.
  • New comers and refugees – our food bank clientele are ethnically very diverse. Extra funds will be used to purchase foods and staples with them in mind and that typically aren’t donated in large quantities. These include items like cooking oil, lentils, beans, rice and chickpeas.
  • While seniors and others who are at higher risk for contracting the COVID virus who s are being encouraged to remain in isolation by the Provincial Health Authority, we will use the Local Love Food Hub funds to support food hamper deliveries to those clients who are unable to pick them up themselves.
  • Food pick-ups of donated food have proven to be a challenge during this time, but with extra support we are able to ensure that all food pick-ups and the movement of product between sites and distribution points can continue to run smoothly so we are able to continue to serve our clients in the most efficient way possible.

We are very grateful to the United Way for this generous and critical support and for their ongoing commitment to supporting the kinds of communities we all want to live in and to helping make life better for thousands across Metro Vancouver, from the Sea to Sky corridor and the Sunshine Coast, to the Fraser Valley and beyond.
